Listened to a NPR interview with Marcus Miller and it was really good to hear some bass centric jazz music...with a touch R&B
Not much Jazz played in these parts so can I get some recommendations on contemporary electric bass players and some of their best CD's

Super funky, that has a killer bass riff

Bass + vocals, "funky" (a must see IMO)

Theres a local group that plays at the rosemount that frequently has bass solos called "void".
Never really heard stuff that was bass-centric and funk.
Although, you could always check out Weather Reports - Heavy weather.
It's not exactly funk, but its "funky"

Oteil Burbridge-Love of a Lifetime
Jaco Pastorius-The Birthday Concert
anything with Victor Wooten, solo or with the Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Tal Wilkenfeld-Transformation
Marcus Miller-The Sun Don't Lie
ANY Stanely Clarke but I especially love Stanely Clarke: Live at the Greek
There is a cd called Thunder that features Stanley,Marcus, and Victor that came out last year, it really funky and BASS heavy without overdoing it.
I could go on...but that should keep you busy for a little while

oh yeah...thanks to all the suggestions. This and the others will keep me busy.

Weather Report "Heavy Weather" is definitely funky. I have that one on vinyl...but no turntable for now. When did that come out? late 70's?

Hard to believe since it seems like yesterday, but it was 1977.

you gotta check Gerald Veasley - On the Fast Track, i think you might just love it. Oh and check Wayman Tisdale - Rebound. Sadly Wayman passed away recently but was one mean Bass player.
