Ok, I'm interested in possibly getting a MD deck or MD/CD deck, but I have a couple questions that will probably even be considered basic stereo questions.

Do I need an Amp(I think the answer is yes)?

If so, why do I need one?

If I didn't have an amp, could I still record?

If someone could break it down for me I would be appreciative.

You will need an amp for playback. The signal that's outputted from the RCAs is line level which is "low". The amp will make that louder.

You don't need an amp to record as the signals from tape and CD players are same power as line level also.

What's your current setup like? And, what do you want to do with the deck?

Then we can suggest some models and how it will connect to your setup.

I meant your stereo setup. Speakers, amp, etc...

Does that Altec Lansing setup have a tape loop? If not you could use a deck as a loop, buy you'd have to leave it's power on to have sound.

If you're anticipating a deck before getting a stereo together, you may be getting ahead of yourself.

A deck won't have amplification. You'll need to also buy speakers and amplification.

Maybe you're wanting a Minidisc system like this or this?

[edit] How many inputs does that Logitech system you own have? Can you switch components with it? Does it have a tape or MD loop?
