hi,

I have a short question, where did you get your denons AH-D5000 balanced and what was the cost?

Or is this something you can do your self? I tried searching the forums, but can't really find much information and while googleing except for the headroom offer.

This is nothing in a hurry, since I won't seriously consider it before march anyway, but I like todo my research before I do stuff...

thanks

I did it myself with tmy D7000 which have similar cable.
Inside the cable there is 2 pairs of wires. One pair per channel with a positive and negative wire each.
You just need to cut out the TRS plug and cut our some of the extrenal cloth and isolation to leave the 2 pair of wire. They are color coded. the negative in each cable is black but I don't remember the color codes for the right positive and left positive but you can check continuity with a voltimeter pretty easy to make sure.

After having the wire identify you just need to solder the positive to the pin 2 on the XLR connector and the negative to the pin 3.

I found that the D7000 sounded better balanced than sigle ended. the clarity and control improved and the soundstage got expanded.

I hope this helps.

Markertek has all the Nuetrik pieces you need to do this. You need a solder gun, solder and a multimeter (Markertek or Radio Shack for that). Read up on soldering techniques. I did 2 cables recently with zero experience and all work great.

I just re-terminated my D7000s w/ the Vampire Wire 3-pin XLR connectors. Unfortunately, the strain relief on the XLRs are for a thicker gauge wire but I improvised and made my own

I put the wires through there, pulled down until it was fairly tight, and bent the ends of the staple.

One thing I noticed though was that the impedance of both headphone drivers do not match. The left is ~22.4ohms and the right is ~23.4ohms. Has anyone else measured both drivers?

I agree with musicman about the changes from balanced vs. unbalanced. Clarity has improved as well as soundstage. I noticed that the bass is more defined in certain songs too. Of course, power has increased too. Now I'm listening at ~9-10 o'clock where before I was at ~11.5-12 o'clock. All in all, a good decision
