Very often I come across sites so poorly designed that I think: unbelievable! How can a commercial site be so badly done! Manufacturers lose the chance to display and advertise their products.

See for example this site of Altec Lansing:

I just can’t see what are the headphones produced by them. Amazing!

If you come across sites of this kind, post it here.

Horrible site. They make it darn hard to buy an iPod these days

I know what you mean about these sites - it's indicative of the dumbing-down of services that seems to be a continual process: it's all style over substance, aesthetics over content. On the face of it, the Apple store looks quite funky, but it's actually pretty hard to actually navigate to the product information you're looking for. I have several friends who are professional web designers and who are equally mystified by the inability of some devs to create clean, functional, modern-looking sites which don't sacrifice content at the alter of style. Maybe some companies look to save costs and get their websites done on the cheap? If so, it's a false economy - as you say, it's vital for retail companies these days to have a good online store front.

If you really want to see something horrific, have a look at this - not knocking the company, if you're into retro computing, they provide a valuable service - but the website looks like it was made in '95 and never updated since:

Many site designers love it: they put the product photo and description, but as there is no grid to separate them, you never know if the description refers to the picture from above or from below. I hate this kind of thing, the desire I have is to close the page and look elsewhere.
