Okay, so I was trying to make a point about thread placement in the new architecture. I picked a thread that I recognized as a good example of the ambiguity here with the additions of "Take It Outside" and "Certifiably Inane," williamgoody's "Talk Radio" thread. I picked it because reasonable justifications could be made for putting it in any of the three fora.
I pointed this out in a reply on the thread -- that it should probably be moved to one of the other two fora. Technically, that's thread crapping -- my reply wasn't on topic. But it was the logical place to make the point, and I wanted to do so publically rather than in private, which is why I didn't just send a PM to a moderator.
A couple of people on that thread took up the debate with me, and I spent some time composing well-researched answers, complete with quotes.
Now my three or four posts from that thread are gone -- obviously removed by a moderator. I fail to see why that should have been done, for several reasons:
1. Thread drift happens all the time, and as far as I can tell the moderators don't normally go through and remove all off-topic content. There are literally hundreds or thousands of examples of this.
2. As I said, I spent some time on those replies. Nobody likes seeing work disappear so soon after they finished working on it.
3. While I remained civil, a couple of people there made blatant personal attacks on me -- much more blatant, in fact, than the mild infringement I was told I made on the "Hillary Clinton/Blackout" thread a week or so ago. So I got a warning for something mild over there, and the evidence of personal attacks against me on the "Talk Radio" thread has been wiped out. Normally I wouldn't really care about such things -- I'm not going to go crying to a moderator every time somebody does something I don't like -- but this just isn't right, considering.
I suppose this post will probably earn me another warning -- I'm clearly a troublemaker, and I'm complaining about the moderation. Oh well.
FWIW, if a moderator is reading this, I still think the "Talk Radio" thread belongs in "Take It Outside," for the reasons I stated quite clearly on that thread before they were deleted.
I'm off to a party now (see, I do have a life) so I won't be able to respond here. Have at it.
