I looked through quite a few threads here about specific portable discman with line output. Most of the ones recommended, seem to be incredibly hard to find and the ones you find need reapirs. I also assume that a cd with line output will be superior to listening through headphone ouput (I use AKG K-701 headphones and Ray Samuels- Hornet- amp.)

Are there any AVAILABLE portable cd players with line output that you like and recommend? Your experience and recomendations will be highly appreciated!

I was using a Panasonic Car/Portable Cd player SL-S341C. It has a line output and while it lasted it worked very well. I have a huge cd collection and am trying to avoid converting to an Ipod. I also just like listening to cds.

Any advise?

Sony D-EJ761 has dedicated line-out (not a current model, but can be bought on eBay).

If by available you mean a current retail model I don't know but a lot of older Sony players can be had on eBay for mostly well under $50. I personally have D-EJ1000 og D-NE920 and have had a D-EJ2000 but most of the upper end of any Sony generation has line-out and a fair lot also optical in the same jack. Also several Panasonic players and probably other brands but I have always used Sony players so have no experience with others.

Babya and nc8000, thak you for your answer. I'll look at these and I really appreciate your response.
nc8000 does an optical work with between a cd player and a portable amp (I have Ray Samuels Hornet) ? or do I need some special equipment?
Thanks

The optical link requieres a dac either stand alone or like what's build into something like the iBasso D1 (long out of production) which is how I've been using it. There are very few portable optical dacs about but rumor has it that iBasso is coming out with the D10 which should be a smaller version of the D1.

Sony D-NE800 can have its headphone jack switched to optical line-out (via the player's options menu ), using a 3.5mm to optical cable.

However, this 2003 model was not sold in the US.

I use one when I travel and set it up in the hotel room. I have far more cd's than I have managed to rip (close to 2.000) so I pick cd's that I haven't ripped and take them. Also I peruse music shops and especially second hand shops on my travels and this is the only way I can listen to them right away (I never take my pc to the hotel room, it stays at the customer site).

Me too-I'm going on a holiday soon, and will be in a bus (where no powerpoint is available), so I'll7 take my EJ761 with me-and I have a lot CD's, so I prefer Discman/CD Walkman because of nice sound quality
