I plan to get the combo for music listening without using a separate head amp. Anyone hear the combo?

you need a separate headphone amp since the av710 has line-out, not headphone-out.

If you want to drive phones directly, the Live! 24-bit would be the better suited budget card.

Check out the M-Audio Revolution 5.1. It has a built-in headphone jack and should sound better than the AV-710 anyways (better DAC). It does cost a bit more than the AV-710 at around $70 though.
