Would the AV-710 be a good choice as a transport to get a digital signal (highest possible quality) to my new Beresford DAC/Amp? I've found many recomendations on its use as a soundcard, but not much on getting a signal to an external DAC. Are there other cards/methods that might be a better choice for this?

yes this would be a very good choice mainly due to the affordability of this card, of course you can use other cards with CMI8788/CMI8770 chip but you are also paying the extra $$ for their other features, in which case you do not need because you are using external DAC.

FYI i'll be using the same setup. The chaintech is a solid card.

I use the AV710 > toslink > Zhaolu 2.5 and it works great.
