Is there a simple way to make my amp powered via the battery when no AC is available, but use the AC if it is plugged in? I was going to just put a two-way switch next to the AC socket, but maybe that is stupid.

Are you powering your amp with AC or with a DC converter from a wallwart or powersupply?

In the case of the latter, you could add a closed circuit DC jack to your amp. I found a good one at Radio Shack. It will use the powersupply when its plugged in and otherwise use the batteries.

See this thread.

Just doin my job. There actually is a switch inside the closed circuit jack so it would accomplish exactly the same thing as a conventional spdt switch from the batteries to the jack. The part Tangent recomends from DigiKey (DigiKey: CP-6) is the exact same jack you can get at Radio Shack, but it may be a couple cents extra.

The Shack part number is 274-1583
Here it is on their website
