Mids were also more noticeably recessed in the W1000 than both the LTDs. Bass out of the W1000 is tight but also on the thin side with not enough slam for my taste. I prefer both of my LTDs over the W1000 with most of the music I listen to. A few W1000 owners have posted that the W1000 sounds a lot better and fuller when matched with the right amp.

The A900LTD and A950LTD are a refined version of the A900 with a smoother and slightly warmer sound while still maintaining it's level of detail and bass extension. I find the mids out of the LTDs to be not as recessed and fuller than the A900 or W1000. Both LTDs sound exactly the same as I hear no differences between the two. The A900LTDs were released in Japan only and it has been mentioned that 1000 pairs were made. The A950LTDs were released in Singapore only and has been mentioned that 2000 pairs were made.

What a AT fan. I wonder how many of us have all three.

What amp are you using with your W1000? If you want a great amp with this unit get the Yamamoto HA-02 or at least check it out. Apparently this amp has been voiced for this particular headphone.

Just a thought.

Yeah the HA-02 has been mentioned as a good pairing with the W1000. Other possibilities might be one of the AT amps or the Sugden Headmaster w/ the W1000. Currently I've tried the W1000 out of my GSX and Stealth, I still found to my ears both amps with my W1000 sounded a bit lean and bright.

The only reason why I bought all three was that I was able so score a deal I couldn't refuse on each of them.

Hmm... that makes that A950LTD from the Korean vendor all the more tempting...

Nice info guys. When some sad day my AKG K340 kicks the bucked and goes to headphone heaven.
I'll have to find a new musical midrange master to back up HD650 and i have a hunch that i'll find it on the Audio-Technica line up?

By the way does Audio-Technicas play well japanese music...i would imagine so?

I got the W1000 and A900LTD, and I agree with most of what Warubozu says, except that I prefer the W1000. :)

The A900LTD got more bass and the W1000 got more details.
But, for me, the biggest difference lies somewhere in the midrange. The W1000 sounds wider and more comprehensible. The A900LTD isn't bad, but I think it sounds a little messy in that range.

Maybe I'm a little weird, but I really like the W1000. It might not have the best performance vs. money ratio, but it's still a favourite of mine.

My amps: a MAD Ear++ (tubes) and a Corda Opera (solid state).
