I could go on about this all day, but my favourite bit of these links (I've seen 'em all before) is the description of the $485 knobs:

"Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effect…really amazing!"

So they just convinced you to drop $6,820 on a volume control, and now they have the *^$%ing _temerity_ to tell you they made it so incredibly badly that _TAKING THE KNOBS OFF_ makes it sound better?

At this point how do you _not_ haul off and disembowel them all with a rusty spoon?

sigh...

Well I never discount things out of a hand (there's too many things around us that seemed "strange" or impossible at one time or another) but most of the snake-oil tweaks are just silly!

While some of them, I'm sure, make a bit of difference, most of them don't make much sense. And even those that do make a difference probably cost 10-500 times what they are worth. (For example, those stones add mass to CD-players which is possibly good... but could also be accomplished with regular pebbles)

In general, if you buy these you are both rich and insane.

That said, audio is always an imprecise science and for every 10,000 madmen there may be one unrecognized genius. Though in this particular crop, I doubt it.

Anyway, some people see this as a malady of audiophilia... I tend to think it is a malady of consumer society. If you look closely enough at any hobby or sub-group you are sure to find some form of snake-oil making the rounds... It's human nature; or at least the nature of all the humans that I know.

I made my own cable lifters for my speaker cables.
Glad they didn't cost me anything but a little bit of my time, and a little wear on the saw and a drill bit.
I could not hear any difference from when the cables were on the floor.

What-A-Crock!

I have never read so much garbage/tripe in my life!

Pebbles!!!

Foil over the word DISC or 33rpm What???

Crocodile Clips!!??

If this is what being an Audiophile is all about then count me out!

I like having nice gear and decent cables etc, but this is just taking the piss!

I wonder if ANYONE has ever bought one of those crocodile clips for £500? They need their heads examining if they have!

Red vs Blue rules.

This stuff is very funny, but I agree...its not audiophile specific. In any group you are going to have a few folks with more money then they know what to do with, and dozens of manufacturing companies trying to fill the needs of those people.

I've made a few quantum clip clones and have treated my nipples and scrotum with them they really do make the highs higher and really add some SLAM to the bass

You really must try some free rainbow foil before discounting it
