Greetings O Fellow Head-Fi inmates. I was hoping to get some help identifying a soundcard that would support DVD-Audio but primarily sound good on stereo....

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Currently the only card that supports DVD-Audio is the Audigy 2 ZS and it's quality is pretty bad compared to real hi-end cards (and you can't use it's digital outputs for the DVD-A signal because of copying concerns). Right now for computers you're limited to audio CD's or recording the analog outputs of hi-rez DVD-A players/SACD players.

Apparently you can also use Win-DVD with other hi-rez cards like the M-Audio Revolution. I haven't tried it myself though. It doesn't work with the E-MU cards though since their WDM drivers don't support sampling above 48khz.

I've also had pretty good results with NVidia Soundstorm 2 (onboard audio) while playing movies and DVD-A through WinDVD. It's not an audiophile option but will do in a pinch.

Thanks. It seems at this time I will just go for a good 2 channel choice .. or the emu 1212
