I found a full review of the D1000 here

Highlights:

-very comfortable, over-the-ear, not on-the-ear
-easy to drive
-flat frequency response

Who's going to be the first to give this headphone a try?

Pretty positive review! These Denon cans are good, no doubt.

I am receiving a pair D1000 and D5000 tomorrow. After some burn-in time I will post my impresions.

What - you didn't spring for the D2000s as well for a full Denon comparison?!!

No warrior05 the wife will divoce me and then will be the most expensive headphones in the planet......
I got the D1000 for my portable and the D5000 to pair them with me GS-1 with stepped attenuator at home.

They both are in the burning in process (60+ hours now) but so far I am very pleased with them. Both are light and very very comfortable with very similar sound character. The main difference is inthe bass where the D5000 is excellent. Also the soundstage in the D5000 is bigger in comparison but mid range and trebel are close.

I will do a comparison of the D5000 to my HD650/Equinox after the burn-in process and also one of the D1000 against my recabled AKG K81DJ.

Please include a blurb or two about how 1000 compares with 5000 in general.

Can the D1000 be driven by an MP3 player, or is an amp necessary?

Nice bike, bootleg :)

Wanted to take a listen to the D1000 today at the Guitar Shop, but when I tried my Zune this morning, no sound!

Somehow it stopped working overnight, I was using it in bed, hooked it up to recharge, and all of a sudden it stopped working...

Darn

I listen to my D1000 using a Shellbroke Maxi Moy Signature amplifier and they sound great. As good or maybe bettter than mu HD25 with Equinox but I notice when is connect them directly to my iPod the sound changes. The bass gets dimishied and the total presentation is leaner and dryer.

You can drive them with the iPod fine but to really make them sing a protable amp is recommended.

This guy's (the reviewer) reference cans are HD202s. What's wrong with this picture?

I made a quick comparison between the D1000 and the D5000. The D1000 keeps the signature sound of the D5000 being this detailed, sweet mids and crisp highs without being ear piercing. The main differences are the amount of bass where the D1000 has less presence and smaller soundstage presentation. Other than that they are close.

I actually think the D1000 is close to the sound of the HD650 but without the airiness provided by an open air design.

I was able to get the D1000 for $123 delivered from one of the pricegrabber.com store fronts. In my opinion these are the best $100-$150 price range headphones I have ever heard.

I would say you can get about 75% to 80% of the D5000 sound paying less of 25% of their cost….. not a bad deal.
