Hi all,

I haven't posted in years but would appreciate your thoughts on this. The HK GLA-55 is on sale at HK's UK store at £299, that's almost 2 thirds off:

A5+ is similarly priced at £300.

I know these are more for near field usage but I intend to use these instead of a 5.1+receiver setup for home theatre use because I want to be able to take these overseas in a year's time.

What are your thoughts on this? Sound quality is the key priority here. Open to alternative set-ups in this price range as well.

Cheers,
Z

The GLA-55 is an interesting looking speaker. I have trouble imagining that the 3" drivers can perform for bass output. Notice that the marketing text on the website claims down to 35hz (look under audio specs), but the spec sheet says 60hz at -10db. That sounds more likely, and indicates that the midbass output might be kind of weak.

Nice! At the price, I would love to try out the GLA55 speakers. They both have a 30-day return policy - give them a try!

interesting  i was also thinking about the A5+, GL55, and focal

To the Focal 714Vs? Those are a completely different class of speaker. That's an amazing price on those. No way that either the A5+ or those GL55s could compete with the SQ those Focals can produce. But you need an amp or receiver to power them.

hmm im still puzzled if i should get the GLA 55 at £299, the chorus is too big for me the carry over sea : (
is there any other alternatives? GLA55 originally costs £750 which makes me tempted
