I got a pair of A5s awhile ago, and was thinking of getting two more.  Is it possible to run them in a 4 speaker setup?  If so, is it advisable?  I'd think it might get annoying having to control two sets of volume, but I don't know.

Yup... you can get a sound card like this one:

I'm sure there's one from creative as well...
or buy a dac that takes toslink or coaxil from your computer and outputs 5.1 to your a5s.
You may need to get a center channel too.

Hope this helps

edit,
You can leave the A5's on all the time... at a desired volume then when they are not used for a certain amount of time, they will go on standby automatically.

I see the A5's are similar to my AV40's in how the input works, that is the only thing that I think might effect whether or not you will be able to do it, I still think you would have the issue of adjusting volumes independently.
