I am looking to buy a good pair of Multimedia speakers for under $150. Of the few available in India, I liked Audioengine A2 and Cambridge Audio S20. I know they are not the same category, both of them had a fair share of good user + expert reviews and besides, they seem to available here in India! Are there better alternatives apart from these two when it comes to Multimedia speakers for under $150?

I am not sure about CA's multimedia speakers. I doubt they even make them. But as far as their passive speakers are concerned, then the S30 model which costs around $150 is passive and requires an amp. However, it is a fair step up from A5+ as well. A2 won't even come close, and even A5+ won't be as good. A5+ is average as far as powered speakers are concerned, but it is definitely not hifi material. Swan and Aktimates beat AEs hands down.

For your purpose, get the best Swan powered bookshelf you can afford. There isnt anything better than that in this price range, and Swan speakers are awesome. AE is decent too, but Swan at the same price point is better.

Techboy,

Much appreciate the suggestions. Not sure if I can get Swan to ship it to India at a reasonable cost. Maybe I used the wrong term—Multimedia Speakers—when I was talking about this CA model. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MSfHxsAfR7y/p_779S20DO/Cambridge-Audio-S20-Dark-Oak.html and A2 is here http://www.proaudiohome.com/Audioengine-India-A2-Premium-Powered-Speaker-System

I think both these are active speakers. I intend to connect this to my MacBook Pro/iMac and would prefer not to have a separate amplifier.

Swan has a distributer in India. He is genuine. I have dealt with him several time. Hifinage.com

Ca s20 aren't multimedia speakers. They need an amp.

I suggest:
http://hifinage.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=83&category_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=29

These will cost around 11k shipped anywhere in India, after 20% discount coupon.

These will compete with A5 easily. :)
