Maybe I'm jumping the gun
Yeah, maybe wait for the AWAS and see how you like it. The AWAS is not a bass-cannon. It more a relaxing pair. I find the EWS9 a bass-cannon headphone but its on-ear and discontinue, not sure about the updated version out today. The D9200 is more of a balance all rounder. The Th-900 is more trebly, bass is good. Do a research on the Sony Z1 if you think it suits you.

The known bass-cannons were like JVC DX1000, sorry let me re-say the name, the legendary JVC HA-DX1000.

but, if we want current gear and not open-backs (Audeze lcd4/4z are great). Try the Sony MDR-M1, a smooth bassy reference closed back. It is my travelling worldwide headphone.

YES!!
I love the ESW9, it has soo much bass, and thump and rumble for such a small little guy!

Now, im thinking collecting all the ESW!
ESW9
ESW9'A' and 'H' version (ESW990H)
ESW9LTD
ESW10JPN
ESW11LTD

I was like, okay time test the bass on these guys, put "ID-ID" starts at 1:45min in.
And was like What LOL!

I was at the temple 5 years ago, middle of Egypt, middle of nowhere and seeing all these people there makes me jelly.
When I was there, it was quite, empty and literally felt like aliens will arrive and do some sort of new world order type of schiit. Amazing times!

Fun fact: Hatshepsut, a female pharaoh build that and so many other crazy sites. Hatshepsut Temple in Luxor was so so creepy and alien-ish, it amazing.

Yeah the Sony mdr-m1 are great for traveling. Plus you can use them with a balanced cable if you have a dap or portable dac/amp supporting such connection. Just like in the video:

Incredibile setup !!! Maybe the best synergy… EarMax SE, better than Allnic 300b amplifier… or other big headphones amplifier…

On AWAS after more listening with the Zmf Eikon and Auteur solid suede a few days each and starting realising that i was missing the stock pads sound and then going back to stock my conclusion is the stock pads sounds much better imo. So yes i agree whats being said that the ear needs to be closer to drivers that stock does make.

It just sounded alittle off to me with the ZMF pads while Eikon in particular gives more subb bass feel i think its not a quality bass and is to difuse. Stock sound much more textured and articulate in bass. Also ZMF pads looses the dynamics, rhythm and timing and clarity of exempel gutiar strings being played force fully. More bite clarity and attack on stock. Also on stock vocals gives more emotion and clarity and feels like your more there. Treble losses again clarity and less sparkle and treble dynamics.

Kinda appreciated AWAS more now after going back to stock bringing it alive again.

AWAS has arrived!

First impression: vocal sounds quite neutral, with great clarity in contrast with Clear's thickness; warm but not bassy; smooth treble with a hint of zing up top. AWKT presents breathy vocal more suggestively, and high female voices are a lot more angelic, while AWAS is less colored and suitable for a wider range of voices.

Soundstage is definitely closer to my face than AWKT, but still pretty wide and spacious. Wider than HD600 / Clear.

I'm not a believer of driver burn-in, but my older AWKT sounds just a bit smoother than this AWAS which is basically brand new. Or maybe it has something to do with the contrast between upper-mid and lower treble.

A bit more about the bass of AWAS, which I find uniquely addicting. There's a bump around 300-500hz which gives a lot of body to deep vocal. Bass instruments such as cello, double bass and bass guitar have this particular sense of vibration that I enjoy greatly. Drums feel floaty, spacious and atmospheric, especially in movie or game soundtracks.

However, sub bass on AWAS rolls off steeply, even more than that of AWKT; bass on the former is noticeably less punchy (even though both don't have much to begin with). This deficiency does not ruin my listening experience though; in fact, I prefer the AWAS' warm and pleasing sound over the Clear's forceful and thick performance.

Not a pair for bassheads, but to be honest I don't think I even need one anymore (especially after the bad experience with the Clear).

P/S: Listening to Lumiere and Clair-Obscur with the AWAS is pure bliss. My friend got addicted.
