I just picked up a pair of Audio Technica ATH-909's on E-Bay but I can't find any information on them anywhere. Does anyone here have any experience with these or has anyone at least heard of them. The picture isn't very good so I can't even tell if they are open or closed.

Thanks

Theyre an open version of the ATH-910... Note the 910 is not in the same league as their ATH-A### series that get so much praise on this forum. I paid $18 shipped for mine, fully intending to mod them. I have some M40fs drivers on order and will be doing driver swaps and mods in the near future.

Stock they are pretty dull and lifeless sounding. Imagine a dull, muddy, flat sounding e2c with no mids and even less (GASP!!) treble. Bass while present really lacks dynamics, presence and impact. I fell asleep listening to them the other day... very borring headphone, lifeless. IMHO KSC75s stomp em to death, in every possible way IMHO.

They are very comfey and light though and they isolate considerably better than my MDRV6 or HP2000... good physical characteristics for a headphone-mod candidate.

I hope you didnt pay too much for them...

Kramer,

Thanks for the info. Thankfully I only paid $12.20 shipped for them (I was the only bidder). My only hope is that they may sound slightly better since they are open. Let me know how your mods work, I may try some myself.

Thanks again

BTW - have you tried taking that thick foam insert out of the center of the pad to see if it opens the sound up at all?

Yeah... Cutting out the center opens up the treble...

Removing it entirely opens up the whole spectrum. I will reserve my detailed oppinions, unless you really want to hear them

. I dont want to influence your perception, either negatively or positively.

Note also that my reference point is DT770, MDRV6, KSC75, UR40, and an MDRV6 driver modded HP2000... all very lively upfront cans.
