Audio Technica MSR7 Buyer's Remorse ... Other Suggestions?

You resurrected an old thread.
Anyhow,
1. Almost all AT cans are bright. That's the AT house signature.
2. MSR7 is closed so soundstage is not comparable with an open back.
3. Comfort is another issue AT cans are not good at(except the AD series)

So whatever the OP has said is quite typical of AT. He chose the wrong brand.

. It also depends on the source and ears tho, I find the Msr7 to have a bigger soudstage than the Fidelio L2 and thats when un amped, of course if you pair a bright headphone with a bright source and amp the treble will be piercing and the consumer will not like the sound signature. But if its paired with a warmer source and a amplifier that mayches with the source well a bright headphones treble will become tamed and instead become a fuller sounding headphone, which is why I said tbe Msr7 sound amazing with a warmer source, yes the treble can still become sibilant but simple eq cam fix that and with comfort, that also depends on the person, I can wear the Msr7 for hours max 5 hours untill I need to take them of for 5 mins so my ears can breathe.

Disclaimer: I haven't heard MSR7
As I see it, you buy a new pair of cans and then trying to 'fix' it up by changing the rest of the setup. Why? Neither Dragonfly or Schitt stack are known to be 'bright', so they are not a problem. EQ is again like altering the sound because you don't like how it sounds on the cans. Everything points at the cans if anything wrong or not likable, it's them. Cans should be changed not the rest of the setup.

A friend owns MSR7 and he likes it, so it's not that I am saying the cans are 'bad'. I am saying if OP didn't like them then there's no justification in changing the rest of the setup.

@OP If you like 598 then you will definitely love HD600/650. Give it a try, it's worth the upgrade.
