Audio Technica M-50 Vs. Sony MDR7506

Hey, everyone. I know that I had posted a thread not too long ago about other headphones, but due to recent complication, my budget has decreased by nearly half. After doing some extensive research I've found a pair of Audio Technica M50s for 120 bucks and a pair of Sony MDR7506s for around 90 bucks. Which one should I go with?
 
Information About Myself:
 
1) I would be using them at school, on the bus, when I'm outside, and possibly when I'm working out. I know that neither is as suited for outdoor use as ear-buds are, however I desire something that will provide a more filling sound.
 
2) I am into all sorts of music. I often listen to pop music, some rock (such as Queen), techno music (like that of Daft Punk and Basshunter), as well as pretty much everything else under the sun. I really only stay away from heavy metal and most rap, although I absolutely love the Epic Rap Battles of History raps. In addition to all of that, I often use my headphones to listen to Youtube videos as well as audiobooks on my Kindle.
 
3) I, despite trying to be gentle, am often rather rough on my stuff, so durability is rather important.
 
4) I have an Android phone and an Amazon Kindle, so it's important for them to work on those devices, and it would be nice if the M50's in-line controls would work on it as well, despite it not really being important.
 
 
Other suggestions would be appreciated, but I'm mainly focusing on these two (unless you believe that you have a better suggestion to fit my likes). Any other suggestions would need to be around 100 dollars. It would also be AMAZING if you could link me to either of these headphones for a cheaper price than what I've found. I've heard that you can find the M50s for less than 100 bucks, but I have yet to find this deal.

Edit: Due to a conversation that I just had with Amazon, there is a chance that I may be able to get the M50s for 100 dollars, although it is not a guarantee. If I am able to get this price, is it still superior/inferior to the others, and how do they compare without the discount?

You can follow the deals thread, there are usually posts for cheap m50s for 89 (lowest i've seen) to 110 with free shipping in some cases.

Ah, thanks. That actually is an amazingly helpful thread. Per chance do you have any input as to which of the two headphones listed above is better or would be better for me?

The M50's are one of the most respected and well-known headphones in the market. A lot of people use these. I'm holding onto a pair of red ones right now and I must say, they are really awesome. Some points:
 
Very comfortable, they fit perfectly over my ears almost as if they were tailor made.
 
Gorgeous looking in person.
 
Strong enough bass with Hip Hop and EDM, with very clear and rich mids and highs to boot.
 
Just really an overall great headphone. I have the Magni/Modi stack to accompany them as well but they sound similar without the stack, it's only because I am a producer and need clearer sound hence the amp/DAC.
 
You won't be disappointed, and for the $$$ it's really an awesome bargain and great way to get your feet wet with high quality audio.

The M50s are definitely highly recognized but with all the hype, I found them to be kinda over-rated. Don't get me wrong, they are good pair of headphones but sometimes people tend to put them too high on the pedal stool. I haven't personally heard the Sony's, so I can't tell you the difference between them. I don't think either has in-line volume support so you can rule that option out for both headphones. The m50s are definitely a sturdy headphone that can be tossed around a bit if you aren't careful with your gear. If no one answers you on this post for a comparison, you can always do a quick search on the forums for the impressions of the sonys then find the millions of post about the m50s on this forum to compare. I would personally go with the m50s though.

If I was to choose the M50s, which I likely will if I can find the for the right price, would you advise that I go with the M50 or the M50S? For the purposes listed above, which do you believe would best suit me? I've never had a coiled wire on a headphone before, so I wouldn't know what they're good for.

The standard straight wire is pretty long for portable use. If you dont mind tying it up when you are moving around then straight. Coil wired would be more portable since the length is shortened via coils but it still is cumbersome.

Make sure you get it from an authorized dealer on Amazon, or else you might receive a fake pair that will sound bad.

MDR7506 is too flat IMO, the bass will prob not be enough for you. and the build quality isn't as good as the M50's.

if its between these 2 get the M50, not the M50S. the extra money is worth it for the coiled cable esp if you're using it outside.

Where have you seen the price staying the same? On Amazon, the coiled one is 30 bucks more. And also, have you any idea where I could get them for around 100 dollars? I've seen that price for them floating around the forum, but haven't been able to find a single credible website offering them for that price. They seem to all be running near 150, dropping down to 130 at the least.

They have gone on sale on Amazon, buydig.com, and sound professionals (I bought a pair for some friends). I'll post it in this thread if I see it on sale again.
 
 
Edit: I just checked my fb wall cause i tend to post deals there. I saw that I posted a deal from buydig.com for the m50 @ 88$ with a promo code audiogold. I just tried it and the coupon is of course expired.
