You might check out the Shure SE535 and especially the Campfire Nova--neutral, transparent, exquisitely detailed. Incredibly well made. Worth looking into, for sure.
I haven't heard the Audio Technica, so I can't comment. I like the W40, but it does have some of the frequency response anomalies mentioned, IMO.
Ok thanks guys.... I've pulled the trigger on the ATH-E70... Now i'm looking for a portable amp. What is the best portable amp to power these bad boyz?
The benefits of a portable amp for an IEM is almost negligible. The benefits are usually from the low (<1ohm) output impedance. Just get a DAP with a dedicated amp section. Check out NwAudioGuy's blog if you want to know more about amplifiers and other audio related science.
