Would they be good for listening jazz?

I would say its not optimal, the highs are a bit "etched" - the sound isnt as smooth as others ..something like an HD600/650 would be better for something like jazz or more natural tone

That being said, if you cant do an open back - the MSR7 is really good, detailed and fast enough to make jazz sound good. May need to eq down the highs a tad.

Are there any headphones that are similar to the ATH-msr7 (portability, style, "neutral sound", ...) that are good for listening jazz. I would be great if there were cheaper too. I will probably  use them the most with my ipod touch. I would like a closed back because I will use them outside and on places with other people.

If you don't mind a little extra bass, M50x sound will be warmer and smoother.  Unfortunately, not as high level of detail retrieval, but should be good for jazz listening.  Another one to consider if you are after a neutral organic smooth sound is SoundMagic HP150.

btw, I've recently bought a black one from Japan using Tenso for US $185 plus $35 for service fee and expedited shipping combined. looking through kakaku before buying is highly recommended.

Thanks for the tip!

Is there anyone here that can give me a comparison of the brightness (and the overall quality of the headphones) AKG K545 (or K845BT), and the ATH - MSR7?
For your information, I can buy the AKG K854BT for the same price as the AKG K545.

Thanks.

Was thinking of getting this for these headphones.  Would it work?  Anyone tried?

I'm enjoying these more than K551/K550.  The bass has more impact and it goes as deep as it did with K551/550.  The treble isn't as prominent and shrill.  I found the AKG treble can be very fatiguing, but not these.  Female vocals on AT simply can't be beat, by AKG or Senn.  The fit and isolation is far far superior and I don't have the sound to be cramped.  I'd recommend these over AKG's K551/K550 if some found the bass lacking and the highs too prominent, fatiguing etc.

These are MUCH smaller than I expected.  As an AT AD900x, AKG K712, and AKG K551, these look tiny in comparison.  I was a little shocked when I saw it, luckily my ears do fit in the cups comfortably.  These are even smaller than the Shure SRH840.  Anyway, just happy my ears fit in these, I was worried they wouldn't fit right when I opened the box.

These do have more treble than the AD900x.  But the treble is still more forward/harsh on the K712 Pro, AKG just loves their treble.  I'd rank my headphones as K712, AD900x, MSR7 and then K551 in preference now.

I do agree that the gunmetal would look better with black pads, but I do not regret getting these at all.  Gunmetal with red is gorgeous.

Not a fan of these cables.  Looking for aftermarket cables or make my own once I figure out what I want to do.  I may just solder directly to the headphones, making them non-detachable.

These will be my portable headphones, so my priority is to find a hardcase to protect these beauties.
