Hi there, I have the Audio Technica ATH-A900 headphones, and the pads pleather covers started to fall off, they were too thin, so after a while I cutted them off.
I feel now they lack a little bass and are brighter than I remembered, I'm not sure tho, but that's my impression.
They are much more comfortable now, that's for sure.

Anyway, now I'm thinking about cutting off the little foam membrane that covers the cones.

My only concern is that they could turn too bright, any thoughts?

If you put a cover over most speakers, it seems to dapen the harshness of the treble. I would say if you remove it the treble will get that little bit brighter as you say. I certainly felt this way when i did the HD650 mod of removing the foam that protects the drivers.

good luck.
