I saw them on ebay here. Does anyone know if they are any good and how they would compare to some stax headphones?

I own an Audio-Technica ATH-8 (aka the Signet TK33) which dates from 1978.

From the homebrew look of the ATH-706 alone, I'd say it was an early attempt at an electret electrostat by A-T, circa '74--'76. They'd probably be roughly equivalent to Stax's first electret 'phone, the SR-40. Which is to say, nothing to get too excited about unless you can get 'em cheap.
