Hello im a complete newbie to audio area for PC so I came to ask...
I have an overall good PC, but desperately need an audio upgrade
I was able to fish out 600$ total to spend and I already have decided to buy
AKG Q701 and Titanium HD

The question here is:
Will getting an external amp (i.e. Schiit Magni or Objective 2) be better than the one in Titanium HD?
also
Will getting an external DAC (i.e Schiit Modi) be better than the one in Titanium HD?
or to the point...
Do I need DAC or Amp with AKGs and Titanium HD setup or do I need both?

AKGs come in about 250 and Titanium HD comes in about 100
I have about 600-350 = 250 for DAC or AMP, or both.

Also an addition...
How do I connect all of these equipment together?
and by which way (i.e. Optical, RCA, 3.5mm jack)
I have used my PC350 from Titanium Fatal1ty in Headphones mode with CMSS-3D;
but on Windows settings I used 5.1 and was able to get surround sound.
Will I be able to do the same with AKG > DAC/AMP or both> Titanium HD?

Thanks in advance~!

Happy to help, but more info is needed: are you going to use headphones just for music, or also gaming and movie watching?
A sound card may be good to handle 5.1 sound, but if all you're focusing on is music, then you may not need one at all.
To drive Q701 to their full potential a sound card alone may not be enough. You'll get close, but the difference after adding a decent amp is noticeable. External DAC would be beneficial if you don't get the sound card, but before you get one check how your on-board one performs - it may be sufficient for the job.

I will be gaming and listening to music a lot about 70/30
It seems like with DAC I can't do equalizer settings and surround sound like CMSS-3D
I currently have Titanium Fatal1ty, which doesn't have RCA...
i read Nameless's Thread on Computer Audio and that solved most of my questions.
I was a bit too clueless when I made this thread. I thought I could put DAC and sound card at the same time.
I already have decided to go with Sound card, but for the amp Im still clueless.
Some people tells me to get O2 and some people tells me to get Schiit Magni
And I cant find any much reviews on them simultaneously, and I wouldn't be changing my mind on the
headphones and the soundcard.

Thank you for your reply/help!

Yup - looks like you do need a sound card. Regarding the amp: out of the two you mention I'd go with the O2. Magni is very new and I haven't seen any user feedback in relation to powering Q701, while the O2 is quite common and has a good reputation with these headphones.

O2 is 50$ more expensive and I will wait for someone with both set up to tell me which one feels better

Thank You for the help!

I'm in the same boat with a Titanium HD and Q701 on the way. Was going to use the O2 but now I'm curious about the Magni. Anyone else have those combo and willing to weigh in?

Sorry, meant to say the new Asgard 2 may be a good match due to its new higher voltage scheme.
