I have a pair of Sansui SP5500X speakers. The best thing about these speakers is that due to their 15" woofers, they don't need a subwoofer. I have tested it with three different amps/receivers,
1.Onkyo HT-R410 5.1 Home Theater Receiver, (5X100Watts)
2.Sansui 777 Vintage 2 Channel Stereo Receiver (2X45 Watts)
3.A built-in amp that came as part of a Panasonic SA-AK300 Mini-Stereo System. (2X140 Watts)
Of the three I found the Onkyo lacking in volume and bass, and I didn't like the overall audio quality. The Sansui could drive the speakers as loud as Panasonic, but strangely enough, I preferred the overall sound the SA-AK300 amp over the Sansui.
Also the reason the Onkyo sounded so poorly may have been that it needed better optimization and also was designed for a surround sound setup.
Just my two cents.
