Have you heard these loudspeakers, Audio Physic Virgo III? How very good are they?
(Since the Virgo III, they have recently jumped to the Virgo V: [audio physic] - no loss of fine detail)

I can buy them second-hand at a "reasonable" price (that is, quite reduced compared to the first-hand price).
But the rest of my hifi gear is not top level (in comparison): Cambridge 640A amp, and Cambridge 640C CD-player (and Musical Fidelity V-Dac).
Would it still make sense to buy them?

Or is it absolutely required to have a very good amp to match very good loudspeakers?

I haven't heard the Virgo but I have heard the Spark and they were great. In general I think Audio Physic speakers are relatively easy to drive so I wouldnt worry a lot about driving them. My friend is driving his Sparks with the Trends 10.1 amp which is only 12W but the result is very good. Worse case scenario you update the amp later.
