Hi:
I rarely post here but longtime lurker. I have been doing PC audio for six or seven years and currently have two systems w/ SB Touch as the digital source. Both Touch have the Bolder Cables analog mods done (which removes the electrolytic caps from the analog outs among other mods). Both systems are hi-eff speakers and single ended tube amps. I do have a hp amp and several decent cans but rarely use them.
I've been using the Touch w/o a DAC and the sound quality after the hardware mods and the installation of the Soundcheck TT3.0 software mods is very good.
I've been thinking (dangerous) about using an external DAC such as the Audi-gd NFB 3.1 or the Schiit Bifrost and whether the improvement (if any) would cure my itch. Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome. A DAC HP amp combo also is of interest. A friend suggested the Centrance as being very well crafted. Audio-gd also offers several combo units but I can very little critical commentary re: these units.
