Couple questions. I'm making my own pair of headphones tomorrow, and am going to make my own cable for it too.

How do I actually braid a wire? It's going to have either 3 or 4 wires coming from the headphone jack..

Standard Stereo Phone Plug - RadioShack.com

(I'm thinking either 3, where in the left earcup I just solder another wire to the ground, and pair that with the right earcups signal and go through the top, over the headband, and into the left earcup, or 4 wires from the jack, with the two ground wires joined right from the jack itself)

I don't know which will produce the cleanest results, if any difference.

i think you can figure 3 wires out

for 4 wires

a. Take the leftmost wire and cross it OVER its TWO neighbors.

b. Take the rightmost wire and cross it OVER its ONE neighbor.

c. Take the leftmost wire and cross it UNDER its TWO neighbors.

d. Take the rightmost wire and cross it UNDER its ONE neighbor.

Hmm I may need to practice.. I may do 3 wires for the sake of keeping the bundles small..

Though, I've never braided at all so even with 3 i'll probably have problems.

L over R over L over R over do four looks much nicer for longer runs of wire

Momomo is right! If you're going to do it, Do It Up Right!!! The look and IMO the sound will be a tad cleaner, But then again I'm a cable believer....

Then foil + braid shielding... bound to be win.

I want it to be the easiest to make though too.. I had my step sister show me how to braid it, and I got a good 3 wire braid..

I'm thinking about for style, put heat shrink tubing every 2 inches that is about 2cm long. Hmm.

That sounds ugly, no offense. I've always liked the look of a nudie cable, though.

Well I'll see how it looks when I get it all put together. If it doesn't look good I'll leave it out of the plans.

Thing is, I got red tubing, not the normal black stuff..
