hi,

i just found this Audigy 2 Platinum eX I/O Module at closet (the box in under):

what i need to know is does it have any amplifier effect, or is it just like they describe it:

Audigy™ 2 External I/O Module: Audiophile quality connectivity with three analog stereo connections for six channel input, optical and coaxial digital I/O, MIDI I/O, and two FireWire® (IEEE1394) ports

i just ordered ATH A500 and i'd like to know is there any difference if i connect headphones through I/O Module or not (just directly to soundcard)?

As it says, it's just an I/O extension module. No power amplifier built-in.

Actually, the DAC + opamps on console are ~same w/ the one found on PCI card:

Converters
Three 24bit stereo ADCs Burr-Brown PCM1804 (SNR >111 dB, THD+N: -102 dB )
24bit 192kHz stereo DAC Cirrus Logic CS4392 (DR 114 dB A, THD+N: -100 dB) [on Console]
24bit 192kHz 8 channel DAC Crystal CS4382 (114 dV A for 24bit mode; 97 dB A for 16bit mode)

You perhaps may get better output quality from console headphone output (no interference coming from other internal parts of PC), but this quality difference comes only if there are some extra noising on lineouts of the PCI card.
