The headphone’s frequency response by itself is an minial phase equalizer, that causes time domain shifts - although named phase response, or ringing.
If such a “acoustical” EQ is corrected by another minimal phase EQ (minimal phase is the standard, traditional EQ) the result is less time domain errors, better transients.
You just may not use a so called “Linear Phase EQ”, as it exactly doesn’t correct the time domain issues.
The only problem is, to find one person’s individual target response, standard measurements can only give a hint at best.
So, if you say you don’t like EQ, then LCD-4 just fits to your personal hearing - and preferred music genre.
A lot of contemporary music productions have a lot of energy in the 4 kHz range, even created by EQ.
