The headphone’s frequency response by itself is an minial phase equalizer, that causes time domain shifts - although named phase response, or ringing.EQ will change the color of the sound, but it won't make it faster. On the contrary, it will blur the transients with ringing.
If such a “acoustical” EQ is corrected by another minimal phase EQ (minimal phase is the standard, traditional EQ) the result is less time domain errors, better transients.
You just may not use a so called “Linear Phase EQ”, as it exactly doesn’t correct the time domain issues.
The only problem is, to find one person’s individual target response, standard measurements can only give a hint at best.
So, if you say you don’t like EQ, then LCD-4 just fits to your personal hearing - and preferred music genre.
A lot of contemporary music productions have a lot of energy in the 4 kHz range, even created by EQ.
This is the where the LCD-4 unobtrusive character makes a great fit.
