Audeze LCD-4

i don't think it's headphones that create that sense of pitch black darkness in the background. any headphone should be able to do that. it's more of a DAC/AMP thing. and probably a little bit of quality-of-signal (cables, power source, etc).

Whereas it is never fully certain if we refer to similar quality or level of "having darkness" at the background, I ignore this point for the moment.

Eventually it is neither the headphones nor the source only, but of course a matter of combination. On a personal note, I should note that my setups have not (yet) been (re)made specifically for my Audezes, but the HD800s, which has considerably recessed mids to be boosted, and bright highs to be tamed. Therefore, my sources (for example, PS Audio DL III w/ Cullen Stage 4) make the midrange forward, whereas my Audezes are also generous about prioritizing the midrange.

That said, I think that some headphones are naturally more difficult in some respects to come to terms with. Regardless of the setups there are general tendencies of the phones. I remember having read in many reviews similar comments on the background color of Audezes, starting from LCD-2s (a quick google search to validate this). Personally I seek the cause of it in Audezes' thicker/more visceral sound, which is a virtue of Audezes to me. So, regardless of this or that setup, I think they have a thicker sound than most other headphones around. I am not fully certain on the way this may relate to the background color, but I am sceptical about what many of us call "creamy bass + midbass"

Friends I am happy to say that I have once again purchases a brand new LCD4. My favorite headphone of all time and the one review I enjoyed writing the most. I am glad to be back.

I only sold this headphone last year because I quit the hobby temporarily and traveled the world. So so glad to be back. I just re-read the utopia vs LCD4 article again too, which always brought a smile to my face. cheers everybody!

"Yup. Pure inky blackness from my LCD-4 too."

Yes actually I'm going to retract that statement because it doesn't make very much sense. Yes my headphone set-up delivers sound with an inky black background but that's not down to the headphones, it's the whole package working together that's delivering the sound.

Greetings to all from Spain...

My dear friend "Bob Sponge Square Pants" own a LCD-4 and ask me for "the best" amplifier for them... I tell him that the Moon 430HA may be a good solution, but:
Can you help me with other gear options? Please.

I see a lot of gear in the posts of this great community. Thank´s in advance.
C.K.

In MHO, Moon 430 is the best amplifier for LCD-4. Of course at last may be a matter of taste but in my system It couldn't be possible to beat the Moon -up to now

As I said,at last a matter of taste and synergies which the rest of the equipment. The Moon Neo 430 - LCD-4 experience is outstanding

I don't like making comments on "the best" because different people have different answers.. But I will agree with the above poster in saying the milo is insanely good from my experience with the LCD-4.
I also really really enjoyed the McIntosh MHA150. In general I love a powerful sounding single ended amplifier with these!

Greetings to all from Spain...

Thank´s for sharing your opinions; Very difficult to ear a Milo in Spain, but the info in the web is amazing. For now I use the LCD-4 with a Marley (M2Tech) with ,only, "good" results (balanced Blue cable).
