Hey fellas,

Ive been pouring over the customs site and cant figure out how much customs etc will cost me if I buy some headphones from the US.

Im looking at some K701's, which are 280-300USD, works out to about 400 AUD. So from here, if the package is labelled and priced, how much can I expect to pay? Is there a table about this somewhere I can look at?

Alternatively, do you aussies know of any awesome, nice, decent yanks who would send it on the down low?

Thanks, Alex.

So far nothing i have recieved from OS has been charged while going through customs. This includes (off the top of my head):

- Amazon order
- Digikey order
- Mouser order

All around the AUD$100 mark.

(sorry, not overly helpful, but info nonetheless)

Rob.

yes, ive ordered countless DVD's etc from the US, up to about 250AUD ach package and not had a problem.

i believe there is duty and tax involved at 250-500AUD, then 500AUD+ is a higher level perhaps. i just cant find the details of it anywhere.

I've been led to believe that anything shipped which comes to less than AU$500 will not have customs added, and so far so good for me... I've also heard that that may have been increased to AU$1000 with the new free trade agreements, but I would do some more research before buying into that.

here is the reference: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5549

so that means a pair of K701's could be had for at the most 450AUD incl shipping, a clear 310AUD cheaper than the cheapest australian seller of said heaphones ive found. unbe-smegging-lievable!

Yeah, its much cheaper to buy headphones outside of Australia. I bought my Senn HD600s from an ebay shop in the UK, approx AU$280 brand new! and AU$25 for shipping. No taxes or custom duties and I got refunded the british VAT!

Not sure why headphones are so much more expensive in Oz. Most are covered by local warranties which is a bonus.

Its a global marketplace, if its cheaper from an overseas seller go for it!

It's a big slug if the total goes over AUD$1000 - I had to pay AUD$220 in customs duty and fees to land a Stax SRM 717 here (cost about AUD$1500), but still half what you would have to pay locally.

yeah well i remember in late 2004 getting a package valued at 260AUD and got slugged a fair bit of money, so obviously our intergration into america as their 51st state is bringing some dividends

Less than AUD 1000 is tax free?

Are they sure? So that means that I can get a DSLR and lenses tax free then?

I thought it used to be around AUD 250 or AUD500 mark, not AUD $1000?

Any aussies got experience with importing cameras/lenses?

Last purchase went straight through customs at US$700 (=AUD$944) approx 8 weeks ago.
