Number of drivers ='s number of armatures (if they are armature based). I would not worry about cables, apart from UE, most cables I've encountered are very reliable if you don't treat them like an unwanted child. Even the thin and apparently frail cable on a pair of ER-6i are actually quite reliable. As a rule of thumb, flexible cables will serve you better than stiffer cables, even if the flexible cables are noticeably thinner. I have to note though, Audio-Technica cables are bomb proof. None of my AT phones have failed my via the cable yet sadly their in-ears aren't all that great.
