How do these two headphones stack up against each other? The M40 is on sale for $55 while the M50 is $98, is the price difference for the M50's worth it?

Get the M50s they are awesome. Durable, good accurate sound, nice bass, isolate well, fold up so they are portable, and they are 38 ohms impedance so they are easy to drive from something like an ipod or a laptop meaning you won't need to spend the extra $$$$ on an amp.

I think the M40fs's have a more accurate and neutral presentation.  But also depends on if that's what you're looking for.  The M50's have a little too much bass for my tastes.
