ATH-M50x, ATH-M40x, V-moda crossfade M80 or Sennheiser PX 360?

And those of u thinking of the monster diesel vektr, I say stay CLEAR. When i tried my friends pair, i got congested soundstage, an overwhelming bass guitar and recessed vocals. The sound also grated on my ears fot some reason.

Well, Monster still needs improvements before making something more audible to Head-Fi'ers, but at least they're trying.

If you can get the PSB M4U1, then by all means go for them. They're really good sounding. However a bit pricey.

Really? I've been looking at the M80's but I was afraid they lack bass so good to know.

It depends on individual ears. I think the M-80 has powerful bass, some don't agree.

Lack of bass: Definitely not. Is bass slightly north of neutral: Yes.

To bass heads, they might be lacking bass.

My friend thought an iHP 635 sounded better than my ATH-S300 because the bass was so bloated he liked it and the congested soundstage he thought was more immersive sound. He could not hear the bass on my alrdy quite bassy S300 and he thought that as instruments were more distant sounding they were worse, when in fact way better soundstage was in play.

I cannot comment on the M50x or the PX 360. I much prefer my M40x over my M80. I still love the M80 and prefer it for on-the-go audio. The M40x is superior to the M80 sonically. It is much more detailed. Has better treble and bass extension. It has a flatter response. It is more articulate. The M80 has a very fun sound signature. It is stylish  and compact. I hope this helps.

Oh u are the 2nd person on my threads that the M80 is not as good as the M40x. I was referred to a review by a head-fier on my other thread written by himself. He compared the M40x to the M80. And considering the M40x is exactly SGD 110 cheaper than the M80, out the M80 goes from my list.

Interesting, thanks for the info though. I gotta try the M40x out sometime.

Love it that the whole m series monitor range has a refreshed look, as opposed to the older ones

Yeah, and they retain the sound signatures too. Gotta love Audio Technica.
