Hi, I am looking for help to choose a pair of good, balanced sounding closed cans. I must have good, detailed mids and highs and bass that has extension and depth without overwhelming the other sounds.    I also need good sounstage. Basically, I need as close to audiophile sound as possible. I have narrowed it down to these 4 cans. Which is better?

The V-Moda XS just came out. Look into them. They are a successor to the M80's. They are supposed to sound better, and be more portable.

Apparently the XSs are much more comfortable than its predecessors. They also have more bass and a bigger spike in treble for what I've heard. Not that V-Moda headphones need more bass, but if bass is your thing, then definitely look into these.

Lol i alrdy said i want balanced sound. I hate fun sound especially emphasised bass. The M80 alrdy have quite a bit of bass, so if the xs have more bass, then no.

Well, the M-80 has a tighter bass than the M50X, but trebles are a bit loose, less control. The M50X has good balanced sound, exactly the same as their predecessor. I don't know anything about the M40X and PX 360 however.

Btw, through my ears, the V-Moda XS has a more refined bass, and better trebles than the M-80, worth looking into.:)

The M50x i know has slightly tighter bass and a slightly wider soundstage than the old one. And btw, it is said as not being too balanced. Emphasised bass and highs cause slightly recessed mids.

Well, it really depends on personal ears. I would recommend you to at least try them out at a store before buying them, just to be sure they suit your tastes. Reviews can be a bit spread out in terms of how one described what they heard.

And do not ask me to get an open pair of cans. I alrdy have a HD 239 and I need a closed pair for portable use. I would gladly bring my Yamaha HPE 170 out if not for the fact it does not fold.

Even cnet says slightly recessed mids for the M50... May just save up a bit more to get the PSB M4U1 (my avatar). They are praised all over, even more than the M50, for its superbly neutral sound at such a price. Cnet even named it the beats for audiophiles due to its outstanding looks.
