I have been listening to my SRH840 for about 2-3 days now. Currently going through the break-in period using pink/white noise and music.
After receiving the SRH840, I took the extra pads and put them onto the ATH M50. It made the world of difference on fitment and comfort.
The bass on the M50 is harder hitting where it is a bit more defined on the SRH840. I have modded the ATH M50 cups with sound dampener and removed the felt plug to lower the bass a bit. The SRH840 is a little more detailed.
Compared to the ATH M50, the sound is very similar. The sound differences are miniscule and sometimes none at all. Does anyone have both and feel the same way? Does the sound differ much on the SRH840 after burn in?
My source is a macbook pro and and ipod touch/iphone. I have no desire to spend money on an amp.
If the SRH840 doesn't distinguish itself a bit more from the ATH M50, I might be returning them to JR and purchase a set of SRH840 replacement pads to keep on my ATH M50.
