I'm looking to buy my first set of quality headphones, and after much deliberation, I (think) I've narrowed it down to either the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 or the Ultrasone HFI 780.
I've read that there's a distinct difference between the two. The M50 are professionally designed, precise phones which transmit every nuance of sound, right into your ears. Meanwhile the 780, with their 'S-Logic' digital surround sound system, make music sound more natural; as if you're actually at the place where the music is being made, rather than listening to a recording of it. It sounds like the speakers are meters away. But is this actually better for listening to music?
I've also read that the M50 are more comfortable and isolate better.
Another factor which matters to me is whether or not the 'phones are forgiving of lower quality sound sources.
Which one would you guys prefer for listening to music?
