I opened my new ATH-M50's to see what was inside (wasnt impressed by the cheap enamel coated wire) but I found thick cotton pads positioned behind the driver. I took them out to see if there was a difference, there a very tiny bit more leaking (only on high volumes) and there seems to be slightly more detail, but suprisingly no echo or reverb, at least that I can hear.
 
They arent in any pictures I've seen, so is this somthing new AudioTechnica is doing or did I miss something?
