I am getting ath-m50's. should I get an amp? Also, does the Sennheiser 558 benefit from an amp?

As both headphones are 50-Ohm, guess it would be best to get a headphone amplifier that is 5-Ohms or less.

What source(s) are you plugging the headphones into?

Yes most headphones will gain an benefit from the extra power an amplifier can provide. That extra power will allow you to achieve more volume and more bass, if you go with an amp that has the bass booster eq button. If portability is required, check out the fiio e11 amplifier. if you want an amp thats still portable, cheaper with less power, then try the fiio e5.
