I'm going to buy my little bro some closed headphones as he'll be heading out to college soon. He's currently using some cheap sony earbuds (MDR-EX15). He listens to a lot of adele and Taylor Swift. I'd prefer to not spend more than $50 for a closed over the ear set that will mostly be hooked up to a computer. Right now I was thinking between the ATH-M20x and the Senn 449. What are your thoughts between the two (or other suggestions)?

Senn HD439 or 449 over the AT20X for sure. There both more on par with the AT40X. I would still pick either of them over the AT 40X. Better comfort and sound for better price. Of course this is all subjective. 10 people 10 different opinions.

Thanks for the replies. Do you happen to know how the Takstar pro 80 compares to the Senn 449? I've got the Senn 558 and I'm guessing he'll want more bass than those.

My Gemini HSR-1000 does have more bass then my HD558s.

How are they as far as clarity goes?

Should have at least equal if not better clarity, then anything else in the $50 price range.
