So its been a lonnnggg time since I've posted here. But absolutely love you guys and can believe in what you guys recommend ; ). Long story short, I am thinking about getting the new ATH-A990Z. I was curious to know if there are any OTHER decent closed back headphones out there? (Decent Bass - Clear Mid - Decent Highs etc.)

If these guys are $220. Maybe something in the $300 - 400+ range perhaps?


Curious to know what you guys think & know!

Beyerdynamic DT1770 comes to mind

MSR7 is pretty nice as well. Although it might be a tad bright if you you are looking at A990z which is a pretty dark headphone.
Very clear and resolving headphone without aggressive trebble though. Superb mids.

Thanks so much for you guys with the suggestions! Will take a look at that Beyer Dynamic for sure. So I currently own the, DT 880 Pro 250ohm (Semi Open Back) - they're different. Nice. I am also, equally enjoying the:

ATH-A1000Z


How much of a difference is there gonna be between THAT and Audio-Technica ATH-A990Z ? I see there is a pretty big price difference, which I don't mind spending the extra $$ on. While its only a very "rudimentary" test, I do like how the 1000Z sounds not gonna lie. Clear mid/highs - bright, digg it.


PS: If I either went with the 990Z OR A1000Z. Will these replacement earpads work you think?

A990Z pads are fantastic. If you want an insane amount of bass, then go for it, but drowns out the sub-bass and mid-bass, becomes boomy. I'd stick to the stock pads. If don't like the sound, just return the headphones and try something else.

Hi milo1230 i'm curious of your choice, because i'm in the same spot.
I come from the ath a900x, wich i love but unfortunatly the left wire have been damaged .
So i wondered if i should go with the a990z, step up to the a1000z or go for another brand because i love the sound but the wing system are not my favorite feature .
