My first ever pair of closed cans have just arrived and eager to hear them I fired up the LD MkIV SE and gave the tubes a few minutes to warm up and as soon as I plugged in the new ATH-A700 I noticed a faint but audible buzz in both ears. Bit odd, so I switched on the LD MkIII and plugged them in. No buzz. So I tried the LDMK1+ and no buzz and nor was there any noise directly from the Arcam Amp phones socket or portable amp.
Never having heard a buzz from the MKIV before I listened for it with my Grados, Senns, AKG's etc and nothing. No background noise at all.
So the ATH-A700 only seem to buzz when using this one amp and I can’t replicate it with any other phones.
Can anyone help explain this? I don’t know if it’s the phones, the amp or what’s going on.
