I know there is an official thread for this, but I just ain't too happy with my cans.

Could it be that I purchased the A500's after owning the grado SR-60s? Or is it because I recently got some KSC-35's? Or maybe because I use an audigy 2zs as a source?

Like most of you, cash is short. Do I save up for a different source..is that my bottleneck? Or do I upgrade to the A900s? Closed cans is necessary.

For music I am afraid the A500/A900 will not impress. Lets review your options:

W5000
K340
CD3000
R10

Try and get ahold of one of those, if you need closed cans. I am afraid they are the only decent closed cans.

Most likely you're not into the Audio Technica sound.

For something completely different, and very affordable (unlike the aforementioned ones), you could start with the AKG K81DJ.

...except for the fact that there is no way in hell that an Audigy 2 ZS can even drive them.

It looks like some upgrades are in order.

This may be the beginning of the end, my friend.

Is the audigy good enough for those akg's? I mean I can always sell the A500's + my audigy and afford a better sound card and the akg's?

What is the K81DJ isolation like? better than A500s or worse? I guess I didn't do enough research buying the A500s When the K81DJ could be had for almost half the price..All I remember is everyone saying best closed around or under $100 are the A500's and the HD280s

Dude the AT Axx series don't isolate that much. They just slightly muffle the sound. And I like my PortaPros better then my A700s when it comes to music. The only time I use my A700s over my PortaPros is when I want detai;, but if I want to rock, I go PortaPro.

:: unrelated question, but I don't want to start a new thread. ::

If I like the PortaPros a lot, will I like Grados? I've heard that the PortaPro is 60% of the SR-60.

:: edit ::

Forgot to mention, I love the A700 for movies and computer use. I will keep them for that reason.

K81DJ are easy to drive, even straight out of an ipod they sound great, your card won't have any problem running them...by the way these cheap cans rock...a lot....and a lot more! You'll love them!
