hi Head-Fi members , i am planning on getting a ASUS Xonar Essence STX Soundcard below is a link of it.

http://www.asus.com/Multimedia/Audio_Cards/Xonar_Essence_STX/#specifications

It has a Digital Coax connector on it but want to use a Fibre Optical Audio Cable not Coax Cable.

In the retail box comes a S/PDIF optical adapter , if im correct what this adapter does is plug in to the Coax port on the back of the Soundcard and then you can plug in a Fibre Optical Cable into the adapter.

Can anyone confirm this is correct ?.......

any tips help

Yes, but if you do not plan to use the analog parts of the card, why get the STX in the first place ? The Xonar D1/DX cost half as much or less, and also have optical output through an adapter.

Your correct, that same port does both coaxial & optical output.
