I'm having trouble with many functions on my sound card and I can't find the reason. I've already disabled the onboard sound on my Gigabyte motherboard which is Azalia codec I suppose?

Anyhow the major problem with my soundcard is that my card isn't playing any sound in some games, for example Left 4 Dead 2, the intro video has sound and the Main Menu, but there's no sound when I actually start playing the game.

And also the tab VocalFX, nothing in there is working even if I just want to test out the mic, but it does work on MSN.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out cause I've had this problem ever since I bought the soundcard =/

Did you set your sound card to the default device?

Did you, in your game, set the sound card instead of 'Primary Sound Driver'?

Did you set your 'recording interface' to be your Mic?

Not sure if this is the correct way but I set my soundcard by going to control panel > Sound and Audo Device

It's not about the game it's having trouble with many softwares

I think so? I did that in Sound and Audio Device

You right clicked it, and hit 'Set as Default', right?

Sorry, not sure where I can find "Set to Default", all I see is Essense STX in "sound device tab"

Where am I supposed to right click?

I found something like "The current device for the sound is Essence STX", I guess it's already set to default then?

It's a little difficult for me to find the thing "Set to Default" since I'm using another language

But I found the properties for the Essence STX in the sound device where you can either tick "Activate" or "Inactivate"

Weird.  Either way, the next step you can take is uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers/device.  By the sounds it of, it's stuck trying to stream to a device it can't reach (IE: the onboard device you uninstalled.)  If that's true, a reinstall of the STX drivers should make sure the device is set as the default primary sound device in all levels of software.

i dont know really... it was all fine when i first bought it, it was in fact running perfectly for 6 days , yeah i didnt even have to disable my motherboard sound to get this working

but once i reformated my computer something went wrong idk what, but it wouldn't work the way it used to

But it does work on music and anything that is involved with Java, anything else wont work

Now I'm trying to reinstall my drivers, disabling the sound card on motherboard, trying to figure out anything that might cause this, and it still wont work... =_=

and yeah it doesn't work on AutoIt (a simpler coding program), there's a program ive made to a certain game, once I turn this on and run the game it will freeze in a couple of mins, but when I remove the sound card and run it again it works perfectly

Does it have something to do with Gigabyte motherboards? >.> I just find it weird how it worked perfectly the first time. It might be a certain driver that I'm missing but I just don't know which one

Nah, Gigabyte boards are solid usually.  It's definitely a software issue if you can hear it in some programs, but not others.  Did you install on top when you redid your computer, or a full reformat?  That could be causing some issues.  If it comes down to it, pull the STX fully out of the case, install the onboard drivers, then reinstall the STX, and set the STX to default.

Setting a device to default without words:

Right click the sound symbol and hit the second from the top option.  Once inside, highlight the output that says something like 'Headphone' and under it 'ASUS Essence STX', then hit the button above the 'Ok' and 'Cancel' buttons.

If none of THAT works, try to get a hold of newer beta drivers or something? o.O
