Wondering if there is/should be any difference in SQ when using ASIO compared to Direct Sound in XP...

Any opinions?

Oh, my

Let me answer a somewhat different question.

When using Directsound with most sound cards (RME cards a popular exception) the bits that will be handed to the sound card are different than the bits in your media files. With ASIO exactly the same bits are handed to the sound card.

Whether you can hear or even measure the difference depends on a lot of factors.

Cheers

With my M-Audio Audiophile 2496, I use ASIO because I can, not because it sounds better than DirectSound. Therefore, I don't believe ASIO sounds better than DirectSound. I believe that if your computer is configured in the right way, DirectSound can be bit-perfect too.
Still, some people report that ASIO sounds better to them, so just try it out.

Try it and see for yourself.

I use XP and on my SbLive! in ASIO, there was quite a large difference. I recommend it!
