OK this really puzzles me.

I have a HD-DVD drive from my xbox 360 and I use it to rip audio CDs. Some (not all) of the rips have artefacts in them, and it's always the same particular second in the track. What's weird is that, non of my CDs have scratches on them, what's even more bizzaer is that they play perfectly fine off the HD-DVD drive, no artefact what so ever, it only happens to the rips when using the HD-DVD drive. Now I use a different CD drive and the problem is solved.

Not that this is a deal breaker or anything, I'm just curious as to what possibly causes this. If the HD-DVD drive has a faulty laser then why does it play the CD perfectly? If the HD-DVD drive is in good shape then why do its rips have artefact in them and rips produced from a different drive don't?
