I had this posted on the hifi pc thread, but thought it might be worthy of a seperate discussion:

Is it possible to use the art di/o tube in d->a conversion? Could you loop an input back into the device somehow?

I (unfortunately) agree that a good source really exposes the flaws in mp3's. What solutions are there for this problem? What is the single best investment you can make to improve the quality or perhaps appearance of your mp3's?

rig: M-audio audiophile -> art di/o -> mod ha-1

Is the digital signal of the audiophile less forgiving than the analog out?

I thought the di/o tube might have something to offer.

thoughts?

The MG Head is a nice amplifier if you listen to MP3s. It softens some of the details while at the same time enhancing the musicality. I listen to the Rhapsody online music service quite frequently, and even though the tracks are compressed, they sound phenomenal through the MG Head. (Plus it matches nicely with the ART DI/O.)
